“White Rabbits, White Rabbits, White Rabbits!”
Supposedly saying this aloud first thing on the first day of the month will bring us good luck, and I’m not taking any chances this year!
My house rabbit, Marshmallow, happens to be white and he keeps me company as I work from home. You would not guess that he is blind as he looks right at you when he hears you and he measures out every room with his whiskers to ensure he doesn’t bump into anything. He’s a clever little guy whose comical antics have kept me smiling since I adopted him as a baby last summer.
I’ve learned through experience about house rabbits since my daughter’s first dwarf lion-head, Snowy, joined us in 2012. She burrowed all the carpets and chewed several phone chargers before we learned to bunny-proof the place properly. On the plus side of keeping these exotic pets, they are soothing companions, highly entertaining and easy to housetrain.
We adopted another big white lop, Hoppy, in 2014 and he joined Snowy and our other lion-head, a grey buck called Hamish, to form Rabbits for Independence.
When Snowy and Hoppy passed on, we adopted a ginger lion-head doe named Brandy to keep Hamish company, and they adored each other.
Each member of our furry family had their own personality and they were the inspiration for my Wee Bunny Book [Beul Aithris Publishing 2017]. This picture book teaches the ABCs of rabbit care through the adventures of kilted super bunnies who fly to the rescue of bunnies in distress in Aberdeen, Ballater and Carnoustie. The sequel Wee Bunny Book 2 [2020] teaches the DEFs in Dundee, Edinburgh and Falkirk. The series will continue with the GHIs in Glasgow, Helensburgh and Inverness.
Saying “White Rabbits, White Rabbits, White Rabbits!” over the years may or may not have contributed to the success of the stories, however it is my hope that the books are helping people to better care for these often neglected pets. Until the next time it’s good night from me and it’s goodnight from him!

Meet a brand new team of Super Bunnies in this eagerly-awaited sequel to the Wee Bunny Book!
Uncle Drew, the mysterious bunny in black, returns to Warren Hill on his motorbike with Hamish the Highlander’s super-athletic nephew Charlie from America. They take us on a tour of Scotland to rescue pet rabbits in distress.
The first stop is a visit to Snowy the Wonder Critter’s magical sister Dandelion in Dundee. Here we learn an important lesson in caring for rabbits before dashing off on the next mission.
At Edinburgh Castle we meet Hoppy the Loppy’s glamorous cousin Elle, who flies in from France using her enormous lop ears as wings. They save a basketful of baby bunnies then fly away on their last adventure of the day.
After Elle has flown Charlie to Falkirk for one more lesson in rabbit welfare, they return to Warren Hill to share their stories with Cuddles and the other Super Bunnies!
Each page is a work of art, conveying the key messages of looking after bunnies and brought to life by Stella Perrett’s beautiful illustrations.
Super Bunny fans will be happy to hear that the Wee Bunny Book 3 is already underway! Be sure to learn the ABCs and DEFs of rabbit care before the GHIs are upon us!

As we leave behind the whirlwind decade of the 2010s, here’s a Hogmanay toast to everyone who has joined me on my journey as an author so far… and a wee preview of how I will be embarking on the 2020s!
The Wee Bunny Book [Beul Aithris Publishing 2017] illustrated by award-winning artist Alison Stell has gained a following of both rabbit welfare advocates and supporters of Scotland around the globe.
Highlights of 2019 included a summer book tour of Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen, and recording the audiobook at Planet Studio. I even found a lady in Russia to make customised super bunny characters: Hamish, Snowy & Hoppy!
The Wee Bunny Book 2 – due for release in the summer of 2020 – is illustrated by renowned cartoonist Stella Perrett, who previously illustrated my Hurricane Hilda children’s series.
Uncle Drew, the mysterious bunny in black, reappears in the sequel with rabbit rescue missions for a brand-new band of kilted super bunnies:
Together they teach important lessons in the care of pet rabbits as they visit Dundee, Edinburgh and Falkirk. Here we have the marvellous illustration of our heroes soaring above the Kelpies!
Plans for the New Year include book signings at Waterstones in Dundee and St Andrews, and – wait for it! – a film of my adventures by Phantom Power!
Come fly with me and the super bunnies in 2020 and beyond!
Sláinte!
Bunnies abound in the Wee Bunny Book 2, due for release in the summer of 2020.
Our story continues as Uncle Drew introduces a new super bunny: Hamish the Highlander’s nephew, Charlie from America, uses his super-athlete powers to leap into action in Dundee, before moving on to Edinburgh and Falkirk.
Just look at this magnificent illustration by Stella Perrett depicting Charlie on Uncle Drew’s motorcycle at Dundee’s V&A design museum!
More illustrations to follow over the coming months.
Wishing all my readers around the world a happy holiday season!
I’m thrilled to announce that the sequel to the “Wee Bunny Book” is well underway and is due for release next summer! Following on from the ABCs of rabbit care in Aberdeen, Ballater and Carnoustie, “Wee Bunny Book 2” teaches the DEFs in Dundee, Edinburgh and Falkirk.
A new team of super bunnies – Charlie, Dandelion and Elle – receive three new rabbit rescue missions from Uncle Drew… and they save the day by a whisker!
Every page is bursting with glorious illustrations by Stella Perrett, which will delight readers aged 3 to 103.
I will be posting sneak previews of the artwork over the next few months on a brand new Facebook page, coming soon!
In the meantime, make sure you are up-to-date with the story so far and that the only bunnies you give this Christmas are in the form of the “Wee Bunny Book“. A percentage of sales goes to rabbit welfare charities.
